Module 1: Welcome
The Biblical Foundation of Your DesignID
Frames DesignID in the image of God, the language of reflection, and the call to let God's light shine through a person's life.
Lesson focus
- Identity begins in the image of God, not in an assessment label.
- The four reflections illuminate rather than limit God's design.
- Reflection becomes visible through love, communication, and action.
Reflection prompt
Where do you see this in real life?
Notice one place this design language gives you clarity about your relationships, work, ministry, or next faithful step.

Foundations of Design
Biblical Foundations of DesignID
Before DesignID becomes a report, framework, or reflection tool, it begins with a biblical truth: you were intentionally created by God.
Section One
Identity Rooted in the Image of God
Your divine design begins long before you took the assessment. It begins in the Imago Dei, the image of God stamped upon every person. DesignID is built on the conviction that we were created to reflect who God is and that He creates with intentionality, purpose, and diversity.
The language of reflection is deeply biblical. Genesis 1:26–27 declares: “Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule…’ So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.”
DesignID interprets this not as static resemblance but as dynamic reflection, the living out of God’s nature through action and relationship. Like an angled mirror, we are created to reflect light from on high and share it outwardly through love, communication, and actions.
We were not merely created to exist. We were created to reflect.
Section Two
According to Jesus
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden... let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Matthew 5:14–16
DesignID is ultimately about learning how God’s light uniquely shines through you. Your reflection is not meant to stay hidden. It is meant to be received, formed, and offered for the good of others and the glory of God.
Section Three
The Four Reflections
DesignID identifies these four reflections because they encompass four primary ways by which God acts throughout Scripture and creation.
Architect
Creation in motion — the grace to initiate, build, and bring possibility to life.
Artisan
Clarity in motion — the grace to refine, reveal truth, and bring wisdom into form.
Shepherd
Compassion in motion — the grace to nurture, restore, encourage, and care.
Steward
Faithfulness in motion — the grace to sustain, protect, organize, and complete what has been entrusted.
Section Four
Not the Whole Image
DesignID openly affirms that while these four reflections cover a great deal, they do not exhaustively define the image of God.
The model’s purpose is illumination, not limitation.
-
God’s nature is infinite; any human reflection is necessarily partial.
-
These four describe core aspects of divine design, but not every nuance of His character, such as mercy, justice, creativity, holiness, or sovereignty.
-
The model helps people recognize how grace moves through them, not all that God is.
Practice
Reflect on Your Design
Take a few moments to consider how God’s image may already be reflected through your life.
Reflect
Where have you most clearly seen God’s nature reflected through your life?
Notice
Which of the four reflections feels most familiar to you right now?
Respond
How might your design become a way of helping others experience God’s light?

Next Lesson: Saved By Grace
Now that we have explored the biblical foundation of divine design, the next lesson turns to the foundation beneath every design: grace itself.
